The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is responsible for investigating homicides, high-risk missing persons and suspicious deaths. IHIT is an integrated team with collaboration from the RCMP, Abbotsford and New Westminster police departments.
IHIT is comprised of 105 employees including 80 police officers, with 4 from Abbotsford and 2 from New Westminster Police. IHIT covers the RCMP Lower Mainland District from Pemberton to Boston Bar, serving 29 RCMP communities and the 2 independent municipal police communities.
IHIT has undergone a change in structure which now includes six operational investigative teams, and five support teams: Cold Case, Investigative Support Unit, Major Case Management, Legal Application Support Team and Victim Support Services.
For the first time ever, IHIT has amalgamated into one facility at the new RCMP "E" Division Headquarters in Surrey, BC.
IHIT has taken a leadership role in coordinating a national approach to Gang and Organized Crime related homicides, has enhanced relationships with the public through the expansion of social media and is moving towards a more comprehensive and modernized electronic major case management system to enhance effective operations.
