Dear Bob,

Once again it is with a heavy heart that I write on behalf of the Executive, Board of
Directors and members of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.

We wish to convey to you, to all members of RCMP E Division and Surrey RCMP,
and to the family and friends of Constable Adrian Oliver our deepest sympathies at this
untimely and tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with those gathered to mourn.
We join you in recognizing the supreme sacrifice of a young officer whose dreams and
achievements have been cut short in the line of duty.

Such an event causes all of us to reflect upon the risks inherent in this profession and to
acknowledge the dedication to public safety that motivates fine young citizens to take
on the responsibilities of a sworn police officer. Constable Oliver made this
commitment, serving and protecting his community in the most direct way. For that
dedication and commitment, we are truly thankful. May he rest in peace.

Yours sincerely,

Chief Jim Chu
President,
Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police

To the Oliver family, friends, and colleagues;

I'm a retired member in B.C. I just wanted to pass on the lyrics of this song in the hopes that it may offer you some comfort.

I have two sons who are the same age as Adrian.
I'm so sorry for your loss.

I heard this latest song by Terry Kelly on Remembrance Day.

People forget that police officers, firemen, and paramedics face many of the same catastrophic events that soldiers do, only for many of us we see more over a prolonged period of time.
So these lyrics seem to hit a chord;

Our deepest condolences,
Bill Jost & Family
Maple Ridge, B.C.

Please accept my deepest sympathy.

While I never worked w/ him or his family Members in the Force, that doesn't matter - he & his family are in my family's prayers as you do your best to put one foot in front of another right now & get through each day. I mention it to you now in the hope that it may help in some fashion in this terrible time.

Your family in the Force is strong & many. You do not know all of us nor do you need to. We are here. We hurt along with you. We cannot imagine what you are going through but you only need to ask & we will help. Take care & God bless.

My Condolences…

I am a Delta Police Department member who drove by the scene on my way to work not long after the incident occurred and heard on the radio as I passed by that there was a serious incident involving a police vehicle and a large truck. I remember hoping that all involved were ok, especially the member who would have obviously been in the smaller vehicle. As I continued on my way to work I didn’t think I would hear much more about the incident, but as the morning went on it became evident that the incident was extremely serious and the word fatality was being used in some of the reports. When the news was confirmed that a member of the RCMP had passed in the accident I was deeply sorrowed and thought of Cst. Adrian Oliver several times throughout the day. I would like to pass on my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Cst. Adrian Oliver and know that he will be dearly missed…

Tim Cardinal

He will never know how much his contribution was appreciated and I feel saddened by his loss.

It is a sad day in policing when we lose one of our own. It is gratifying to know that within policing there exists a large police family. It extends beyond borders, even continents; it overcomes professional enmities and politics; it connects everyone who wears a badge in a united brother/sisterhood that transcends all divisive issues to create a universal collective. That collective is strongest in times of extreme trial. We will deal with this loss with strength, nobility and honor as demanded by our profession.

We weep for the loss of our brother. Our prayers encompass his family. Our sense of duty makes us carry on.

Dear Olivers

You are no strangers to this part of life that we face on daily basis as RCMP. Ben, I can still see the look on your mom's face as she patiently sat in the car with you and your brothers back in the early 90s when your family vacation was briefly suspended as your dad pulled over on the TC Hwy near Memramcook to assist me with a serious collision; Joe, your comments were something like "the misses understands" as you crawled into the back seat of the wreck to support and comfort the poor trapped soul. This modelling of service is no doubt what the LMD experienced when two more Olivers arrived to fulfill their duties. Canadians do not necessarilly appreciate our careers, but I believe that the majority still admire and respect us for the service, sacrifices and lifestyle that we have chosen when we take our oath.

As as second gen I truly understand that there are no words for what Force families go through at these times, but we all share in the loss of Adrian.

We the Cowans will pray for courage and solace for you all.

God bless

Ian

My family & I wish to pass our heart felt condolences to you all & will be praying that our Lords arms will be around you in this time of grief.

Please accept my heart felt condolences. I truly do not know how you feel nor do I pretend to. I am a paramedic and see loss often but have not experienced it in my own household. My brother is a RCMP officer and I understand what it is to worry about a loved one in a uniform. Please take care.... And again sorry for your loss.

Officer Adrian lost his life very close to where I live and on the very auspicious day of Diwali in my culture. I drove past the site that evening & my heart was heavy knowing while I was able to celebrate with my family that evening , there was another family suffering from a great loss. This morning I saw his friends and family huddled together paying their respects and although I did not know Officer Oliver I so badly wanted to join them and somehow take away their pain. I will keep him and everyone coping with the loss of such a brave young man in my prayers.

May his soul be at peace.

Navi Gill

To the Oliver family;

Hello,

My name is Kim Harbottle and I live in Victoria, BC. I would like to pass along all of my thoughts and prayers to both the Surrey RCMP family and the family of the RCMP officer that passed away

My thoughts and prayers go out to both families at this very sad and difficult time

Thank you,
Kim Harbottle

When I lost my son 2 years ago, the words from the pastor have stayed with me forever. He said, "We know some day we will lose our parents, It is painful and we bury them in the ground. When we lose a partner, it is painful. But we can find love again. But when we bury our child, there is nothing more devastating and we bury them in our chest, right beside our heart forever." Truer words were never spoken. But in honour of our children, we live on. My prayers are with you and your family as you go through this very difficult loss of your precious son.

Dear Oliver family,

Our deep condolences on the unfortunate loss of the life of Cst. Adrian Oliver, after knowing about your family and what your family has been doing to provide great services to the society and provide comforts to life of others. We salute you all.

No words or gesture can provide any comfort for such a loss of a great soul and human being. We hope and pray that somehow your family, friends and close ones will get the courage and peace in knowing that hopefully Adrian rests in peace and he had given his life in the line of duty; providing great services and protecting others.

Rest in peace Adrian, God bless the great departed soul.

Yours truly,

Yash Chawla family

Earlier in September during a trip in BC I visited a friend that is a member on C watch and I participated in a few ride along. During those ride along I got to meet Adrian and get to know him a little. During those nights Adrian talked about his time spent in Woodstock, NB and the people he knew here. The two nights that I was there I’ve had the honour of meeting Adrian, and now this only allows me to testify of how much of great man and member he was. When Adrian became an RCMP officer I would say that he answered his calling, you could see the love he had for the force and that he enjoyed his job… to him it was a passion and he was not afraid to share it! During those nights he talked about his family and his girlfriend, again you could see how much he cared for them.

When I heard the news my heart sank, I immediately felt the pain of this lost… To his Brothers and Sisters in the RMCP, I wish to offer you my deepest sympathy, it is never easy to lose a member of our extended family. To his Brothers and Sisters of C watch, I’ve seen firsthand the camaraderie and care you have for one another, I am so sorry for this lost, please stay strong and stay together. To his family, words can’t express the sadness and pain that I feel for all of you today, Adrian was a great guy, you will miss him and so will the rest of us. My deepest sympathy to all of you, may you have the courage to deal with this difficult time, and be proud of him.

Constable Adrian Oliver you served your country well, but I guess God needed a real life hero and called for you. May you rest in Peace Brother. Please watch over your Family, Brothers and Sisters of the Force, give them the courage to carry-on.

André Beaulieu
Border Services Officer

To the Oliver family and the RCMP:

On behalf of my Law Enforcement Studies class, Cohort 9, at the Justice Institute of British Columbia, I would like to express my condolences to you on the loss of your son, brother, friend, and colleague.

This is an ill-timed and upsetting loss for everyone. Being a resident of the City of Surrey, and a potential applicant, this serves as a reminder to me and my classmates here at JIBC the dangers of policing and the amount of dedication one must have for this career. Cst. Oliver showed dedication, courage, and affection to his career and his community, and for that, we thank you good sir.

This is truly a sad day for the Surrey RCMP, and the whole law enforcement family...

Rest In Peace Cst. Adrian Oliver.

As a family that has lived in Surrey for the past fifty years we are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of one of our most valued members of our city. Sending my sincerest thoughts and condolences to RCMP Officer Adrian Oliver’s family members.
I have and had several family and friends in the RCMP Forces and everytime I hear of an officer injured and/or killed my heart skips a beat and I always try to find out who it is.

Time will be the greatest healer...it always has been for us during our losses.

And yes I did cry this time even I did not your Son Adrian, ‘cause he is part of our RCMP Forces families.
