Condolences received from E-mail

Dear Family of Cst. Oliver,

I am deeply saddened to hear of your tragic loss this morning. Any time an officer is killed in the line of duty, it is heartbreaking, but even more so when that officer is so young, with so much of his life ahead of him. I understand that your family has given three generations of service to the RCMP and to our country. Thank you for that. I will be praying for you in the difficult days ahead. I hope that knowing so many of your fellow citizens care helps to bring you some small measure of comfort.

Sincerely,
Lelainia Lloyd

Please know that my section, as I am sure my detachment and others across the LMD are thinking of Cst.OLIVER's family, friends and watchmates.

May Peace be with you;
Amanda DODGSON

As the girlfriend of a fellow RCMP member, I can’t even begin to imagine the pain that you are going through but whether you know it or not, there are thousands upon thousands of people grieving alongside you. Our community lost a brave and honorable man today and his commitment and dedication to keeping the city I call home safe will not be forgotten.

Today the RCMP suffered a huge loss. It's such a tragic incident and my thoughts go out to Cst. Oliver's family and friends. He was a great member and will be missed by so many.

I raised my kids to respect others and above all the law. When it came to talking to any officer of any agency, I told my kids if they done nothing wrong then the truth was never nothing to fear. I think of my sons and the loss of yours today, and it pains me to think of the pain you are going through. I tear up just thinking of your memories of his excitment and the times he must have made you so proud to follow into a family career. As I drove around today watching other Officers in cruisers working. It reflected on who is in the car.

Again I just wish to say my family is thinking of yours in this tragic time.

Good Evening;

I wanted to express my condolences to you at the loss of Adrian. He was my brother even though I have never met him. His loss is a loss to us all and keenly felt by all in the RCMP. Not nearly as keenly felt as by his family and friends. My heartfelt sympathies to you his family and to his detachment members.

Cst. K.A. CAMPBELL C.D.

Our deepest sympathies with you in your time of grief. Your precious son had devoted his life to serve the public in a selfless manner. I had the pleasure and honour of knowing Adrian as a coworker and a friend socially. I will never forget his enthusiasm , dedication to his family, spouse and the organization as a whole. His smile was infectious, his commitment was admirable and his presence was that of a youthful energy that made you want to get up and answer the call to duty beside him. His presence will never be gone in those who knew him, he will be carried daily in our hearts and spirits. We will maintain the right as we always have , knowing that Adrian paid the ultimate sacrifice and that every day he will be honored , even when the flags are raised again . We will love and care for those he left behind and try to be even half as good as he was.

Respectfully ,

Dear Adrian's family and friends:

The loss of a loved one is always so heart breaking - especially at such a young age. My husband and I would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies for the loss of Adrian. The RCMP is always a close knit family, but in times of need - we really come together.

I am posted in Richmond and I recently lost my corporal/friend to suicide. Our watch went thru similar heartbreak as Adrian's watch is currently going thru and so we understand the sense of loss and sometimes anger that comes from a sudden death of a loved one. It really is not fair.

The night shift after Adrian's passing, seven members of my watch worked in Surrey so that C watch could all have the night off. I feel that since my watch had recently gone thru the grieving, it struck a chord with them, as our own detachment had been so supportive, and they wanted to be there to support the member in Surrey.

Our prayers are with you all.

Tess and Christopher Nordlund.

To Adrian's Family and Friends;

I am a Staff Sergeant Major in Victoria and I am presently in Puerto Rico with my wife on holidays. When I returned here today from our one week cruise I turned on my Blackberry to catch up on my regular work emails. I was horrified to learn of Adrian's death. Although I did not know Adrian personally I feel so helpless being so far away. As a result I will not be able to attend his Celebration of life on Tuesday. Thank you for allowing me / us through this email address the opportunity to extend our deepest condolences to you. I too have a child in the Force and I can only imagine the pain everyone is feeling. I have shared the story of Adrian's death here in Puerto Rico with fellow police officers that I met this afternoon in San Juan and although they live and work in a place very much different from ours their eyes, expressions and unspoken words were the same we would find from anyone in the policing family anywhere in the world upon learning of such terrible news.

We will be thinking of you on Tuesday. Your / our memories of Adrian will last forever.

Sincerely;
Mr and Mrs Marc Lavergne

I wanted to pass along my personal condolences to the family and police family of Cst. Oliver. No words can assuage the pain of this tragic loss, but it is my hope that the respect and thanks of a grateful nation may bring some measure of comfort in this saddened time.

I cannot express enough how tragic this is. The kindness in Adrian and the pride he has in himself are evident from his beautiful photo. Thank you for sharing it.

My brother is also an RCMP posted in Kimmirut, Nunavut; with 11 years with the organization. He has often told me that when he has found himself in a bad situation thinking there is no way out; almost immediately the way out appears. I truly believe the officers have an angel guiding them and Adrian now another to guide his comrades.

Bless you Adrian.

Sincerely,

Susan Rushton

My heart, thoughts, prayers and sincerest condolences go out to the family, friends and colleagues of Cst. Adrian Oliver. A young police officer who tragically lost his life in the line of duty today in Surrey, BC.

We are sharply reminded today that Police Officers and other First Responders put their lives at risk every day in the line of duty. Their courageousness and commitment to keeping our communities safe is admirable. Though we typically do not know these first responders personally, we feel a collective sense of loss and grief.

As an aspiring police officer, I am inspired by the brave and courageous, men and women, who put their lives at risk everyday to ensure our safety. The outstanding work, commitment and attitude of Cst. Oliver and his colleagues inspires and encourages aspiring police officers to work harder to reach our goals.

I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to the Oliver family…. I had the pleasure of teaching Adrian, and his brother Ben, in grade 8 French Immersion, when they lived in Woodstock, N.B. It was my first teaching job in N.B. and a first to teach twins! They were quite the boys! I would look at Adrian from time to time in class and ask him Adrian, is that really you or are you and your brother Ben playing a trick on me? Did you guys switch at break time? He’d say, Well, we did think of it, but no, we didn’t switch. Adrian, along with Ben, were funny and good hearted boys. My heart sunk when I heard the news. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Cst. Oliver. Cst. Oliver served with honour and pride.

My Dear Friends,

When I first joined the Police in 1976, no one ever spoke of "losing one of our own". I actually never considered the prospect or how my colleagues and I would deal with the aftermath. Unfortunately, I learned very quickly that reality seems to fade into the background, replaced by the disbelief, anger and grief that I am now well acquainted with.
Although I did not know Adrian, he was my brother, son and friend. Nothing I can say will ease your burden, but please know that the "Blue" will always hold you near.
Fondest Regards,

Cpl. David Reid
Burnaby

After hearing about Adrian's tragic passing I wanted to let you know that I am thinking you all and what you must be going through right now. Please accept my condolences. I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you.

I'm sorry I never had a chance to meet him. He sounds like he was a truly remarkable man.

I used to work in Surrey and I know how close the members of that detachment are. I wish that I could be at the funeral to show my honor and respect but unfortunately due to shortage at our detachment I will not be able to make it. I will however be there in spirit.

I wish you strength through this extremely emotional and difficult time. When you feel you do not have the strength look around at the sea of red and know that we, as your extended RCMP family will carry you.

Respectfully

Kerry Szkica

Please pass on my deepest sympathy to Cst. Oliver’s family and co-workers. Having worked in the Chief Constable’s office for almost 25 years, the appreciation I have for the members of this department and those of other departments and detachments is profound. These hardworking members put their life on the line from the moment they step out their door but it is a chosen profession for them and one that the rest of us greatly admire them for choosing.

Everyone in policing, including civilians and volunteers who work with these members are grieving for the loss of Cst. Oliver. Be strong.

Dear family and friends of Constable Oliver,

I can’t even begin to imagine what you’re going through. Although I proudly wear the Police and Peace Officers Memorial pin, my heart is heavy at the thought that another name will be added to the memorial next September.

Dear Joe, Kate, Thomas, Ben and Shelagh,

Not one word in any language can express the feelings we all have in the loss of special people in the world. Although I didn't know Adrian, I feel the sadness in knowing one of our family has been taken. There are never any answers to such tragedy, but by keeping Adrian is our hearts we will keep his goodness and memories with us always. To the Oliver family,

We had the pleasure of working with Adrian, even though it was on a limited basis, at the Surrey Detachment. He was a wonderful person who truly loved his work ... he treated everyone with respect and always had a smile to give. He was the epitome of what a police officer should be and we were lucky to have worked with him.

Please know that even though he is no longer with us, Adrian will forever live on in everyone's hearts and memories.

Our deepest condolences to you all.

Hello,
As a member of an emergency service myself, it hits hard to see someone else that serves the public, especially someone whose career brings them so close to danger on a daily basis, die in the line of duty.

Those of us that see what the police go through recognize the personal and family sacrifices made everyday. Nevertheless, giving ones life to serve the public, no matter what the cause, is not the kind of sacrifice we as the people you serve, would ever expect or accept.

My prayers go out to Cst. Adrian Oliver's family, friends and colleagues. This is not an experience you should have to endure alone.

To the Oliver family,

I am truly saddened to hear of your loss. Adrian was a great person, as is your entire family. I was lucky enough to have been friends with Adrian when we were young kids, in Woodstock. I have very fond childhood memories of playing hide and seek, and road hockey with Adrian, and Ben. Adrian had such a positive attitude, and undoubtedly the most infectious smile I have ever witnessed in my entire life. I hope your family can take some solace in knowing that Adrian touched so many lives, in such a positive way. Adrian will be missed dearly, in an overwhelmingly profound way. Words will never be able to fully express my feelings of sadness and grief for your family.

To Ben: I cannot imagine the pain and sadness you are feeling right now. I know we haven't kept in touch for quite some time, but I would like you to know that I am only a phone call, or email away. Even if it is just to talk, maybe share some memories...anything that I can do to try to help, please just let me know. May God bless, and grant strength to your entire family during this incredibly difficult time.

My family sends their deepest condolences and prayers to your family. We come from a policing family, my husband now retired, a former deputy chief from London, Ontario, myself a former London police officer and my son is currently an RCMP officer in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I pray that you have comfort knowing that your son was a wonderful young man and was prepared to sacrifice his life for the sake of duty. He was a leader. Although so difficult to accept, it is an honour knowing you raised such a beautiful young man.

To the Oliver family - My wife and I wish to offer our condolences to your family. It is always sad when we read or hear that a member of the RCMP or any police force, has either been injured or lost his/her life in the line of duty. My wife and I lost our daughter in car crash, albeit she was not a member of a police force so we empathize with the family. Our prayers are with the family this day.

I would like to add my name to the many that have expressed a deep sadness in the loss of Constable Oliver. It is difficult to find the appropriate words that accurately reflect the despair one member feels when another is killed in the line of duty.
