Human Remains Identified

Shawnigan Lake, Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU)

72 year old Richard "Blair" Young was reported missing to the Victoria Police Department on Feb 14th, 2017. Victoria Police disseminated a missing person bulletin asking for the public's assistance in locating Mr. Young.

On March 3, 2017 The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) working with the BC Coroners Service, Cowichan Valley and Salt Spring Island Search and Rescue recovered human remains from the Malahat. These remains have now been identified as that of Richard Blair Young from Victoria BC. Young’s death is being investigated as a homicide. While this investigation remains in the early stages, there is nothing to suggest that the public is at risk.

The family is requesting their privacy at this time.

"The death of Mr. Young is tragic and our thoughts are with his family. We are asking those individuals who have information about his death to come forward." says Cpl Tammy Douglas.
