Human remains discovered along the Thompson River in Kamloops have since been positively identified and the RCMP have since handed the investigation over to the BC Coroners Service.

On July 6, 2018 at approximately 4:30 pm, the Kamloops RCMP were notified by a member of the general public that human remains were found along the banks of the Thompson River near the Kamloops Airport.

The Kamloops and Kelowna RCMP detachments have been working collaboratively with the BC Coroners Service following the discovery of the human remains, states RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the Kelowna Regional Detachment. RCMP can now confirm that the deceased individual has been positively identified, by the Coroners Service, as missing person Martin Joseph Thiffault.

Martin Thiffault was last heard from on April 19th, 2018 in the Kelowna area. RCMP were made aware of Martin’s disappearance on April 24th, at which time a missing person’s investigation was launched.

With support of our policing partners, Martin Thiffault’s next of kin have been notified of his passing, our deepest sympathy goes out to Martin’s family as they mourn the loss of their loved one, adds Kelowna RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

Both the Kelowna RCMP and Kamloops RCMP continue to support the BC Coroners Service. The RCMP and Coroners Service have no further information available for release.
