Update to original release
The Stewart RCMP believe that the items located in late August 2019 belong to a male Kayaker from Belgium. Romain Quénéhen was last known to be travelling through northern BC and Alaska and has not made contact with family for several weeks.
A mentioned in the original release, when the Stewart RCMP were alerted to the kayak in the river they partnered with Search and Rescue and a swift water rescue team from Terrace BC.
At this point, we don’t have a lot of information but we have a good amount of evidence to suggest that the missing person is a Belgian man, says North District RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson.
We’ve been in contact with the Belgium federal police who are making contact with the family and at this point, we have no reason to suspect any sort of foul play is involved.
The Stewart RCMP have been in contact with the Belgian Federal Police, who in turn have been liaising with the family of Quénéhen.
If you have any information that can assist with this investigation, please contact the Stewart RCMP at 250-636-2233.
