BC RCMP Traffic Services officers issue speeding tickets at local ski hill
On January 12, 2020, the Golden Kicking Horse Alpine Team (GKHAT) hosted the fifth annual Cookie Cup held at the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort near Golden, BC.
The Cookie Cup was comprised of four events: Snow Starts Skills, Speed Trap, Dual Slalom and Team Ski Cross. Approximately 130 skiers, ranging in age from 5 to 14 years old, were divided into teams of 3 or 4 and received a team score for each event.
This year’s event was attended by two RCMP officers from Trans Canada East Traffic Services (Golden) who issued speeding tickets of a different kind to the young competitors.
Constables Martin Pattinson and Mark Tataryn used a laser speed measuring device to record the speeds of the skiers as they blasted down the race course. The fastest speed was 96 km/h and a 5-year-old racer reached 63 km/h!

An award ceremony was held at the conclusion of the event and participating skiers were presented an edible cookie medal (Cookie Cup). Constables Pattinson and Tataryn issued fake speeding tickets to the young racers and were themselves presented with a Cookie Cup in appreciation for volunteering at the event.
We had a great time at this event and we truly appreciate the positive response we received from the event organizers, participants and spectators alike, says Constable Martin Pattinson of Trans Canada East Traffic Services.
It isn’t often we get the opportunity to attend events like this and we hope to be invited back – especially if cookies are involved!
