Fatal Collision on Highway 4

On June 26, 2016 at approximately 2:30 p.m. reports were received of a collision between a tractor trailer and a motorcycle near Hydro Hill on Hwy 4 approximately 28 km east of the highway junction leading to Ucluelet and Tofino. Central Vancouver Island Traffic Services RCMP (CVITS) and Ucluelet RCMP attended as did BC Ambulance Service and Ucluelet Fire Dept.

The collision occurred on a two lane, winding stretch of road. Posted speed limit is 80 km/h but occurred on a curve with a 40 km/h advisory sign.

The male rider on the east bound motorcycle died after crossing the centre line on a curve and striking a west bound tractor-trailer.

Next of the kin notification of the deceased has been completed and BC Coroners Service are responsible for release of the deceased's name.

The highway was closed for several hours and then single lane alternating traffic was allowed to proceed while investigators, the Coroner and a Collision Analyst investigated the scene.
