File # 2019-4332

On May 3, the Oceanside RCMP received a report from a resident in Nanoose Bay who awoke to find his vehicle had been stolen overnight.

Later in the day, the RCMP received a report of a suspicious young man who was seen going up and down driveways in the Nanoose Bay area. The caller was able to watch the man get into the vehicle and they astutely recorded the licence plate for the police. It was confirmed to be the vehicle reported stolen earlier.

The observant caller was then able to direct Oceanside RCMP officers to a Nanoose Bay gas station where the suspect and vehicle were located. Upon police attendance, the suspect ran into the woods. A police dog was called and tracked the suspect.

The suspect, 19 year old Joel Edward Moody of Nanoose Bay was arrested without incident and held for court. Moody has been remanded in custody and makes his next appearance on May 28. Charges of breaching court ordered conditions and possession of stolen property have been proposed.
