RCMP search for stolen mini excavator as they investigate break-in to job site

RCMP in Golden are continuing their investigation into a commercial break and enter and theft of materials and equipment from a construction site along Highway 1 west of the city.

On September 16, 2019 just minutes before 9 a.m., Golden RCMP received a report of a break and enter to a building located on a construction worksite approximately 60-70 kilometres west of Golden along Highway 1.The suspect or suspects allegedly smashed a window to gain entry into the building, where once inside they removed various office items.

The thieves also stole hundreds of litres of fuel from a holding tank on site, states Golden RCMP Detachment Commander, Sgt. Betty Watson. A mini excavator, valued at around $100,000, was also taken.

Investigators believe that the theft was committed sometime overnight, between Sunday September 14th at 5 p.m. and Monday September 15th at 12 p.m.

Police continue their efforts to locate the stolen Caterpillar 305 mini excavator.
