File # SOTS 2020-4057
On Saturday, July 25, 2020 at approximately 5:20 PM, Princeton RCMP and Emergency Services responded to a two vehicle head-on collision about two kilometres east of Princeton, BC.
Upon arrival it was determined that a westbound SUV occupied by a man and woman from Vancouver collided head-on with an eastbound semi truck driven by a 50 year old man from the Fraser Valley. Both occupants of the SUV, a man in his 70's and a woman in her fifties, died on scene as a result of the crash. The driver of the semi truck sustained non-life threatening injuries requiring medical attention.
South Okanagan Traffic Services (Keremeos) have assumed conduct of the investigation with assistance from the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement branch and the BC Coroners' Service. At this time, impairment is not suspected. Road and weather conditions at the time were excellent, however police are considering that the setting sun may have affected the visibility of the westbound driver.
South Okanagan Traffic Services (SOTS) is appealing for any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to come forward, including anyone with dash camera video of either the eastbound semi truck, a white Western Star and trailer, and the westbound SUV, a 2016 blue Ford Explorer, to contact SOTS at 250-499-2250.
This is a reminder to motorists that even though driving conditions may appear ideal, they can change with little warning, affecting one's perceptions and reactions to the changing conditions.
