Parents – talk to your kids about “Pre-Graduation” parties!

File # 2019-08-29

Over the Labour Day long weekend, North Vancouver grade 12 high school students have historically held unsanctioned Pre-Graduation parties in local parks and school grounds.

In the past, police have dealt with large Pre-Graduation parties where students under the influence of alcohol and drugs have caused property damage and injury to themselves and others.

Inspector Ben Rodrigue Acting Officer in Charge of North Vancouver, is warning the grade 12 students to think through their choices this weekend. "Whether from alcohol or drugs or careless driving, we don’t want to see any of our youth hurt this last weekend of summer."

Parents of all grade 12 students are encouraged to talk with their kids about their plans for the weekend.

The North Van RCMP are working closely with the North Vancouver School District, Parks and Recreation, and the North Vancouver Fire Departments, and are pleased to report that there were no major incidents at pre-grad events over the last two years.

An increased high visible police presence will be seen in various key areas, including local parks and schools. Officers will be proactive in enforcement of all liquor, traffic violations and local by-laws.
