File # 2019-08-22

North Vancouver Detachment’s newest traffic member might look familiar.

Constable Matt McCoy was posted to North Vancouver eight years ago. As part of the traffic enforcement unit, he has been a familiar face in our community, helping to keep the streets safe for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. Yesterday marked Constable McCoy’s last shift in North Vancouver as he prepares for a transfer to Alberta, but he left us with a way to remember him.

The real Constable McCoy has a wooden doppelganger who reported for duty earlier this week.

The fake McCoy worked his first shift on Delbrook Avenue, where police and neighbours noticed an immediate reduction in speeding infractions. In coming days, you may see him set up around the City and District, targeting those areas where there have been the most problems with speeders.

And if drivers don’t heed the warning of the wooden police officer, his flesh-and-blood partners will be in the area to issue a ticket.
