An Open Letter from the Officer-In-Charge

To the community members of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows;
I am writing to express my gratitude on behalf of the entire Ridge Meadows RCMP detachment to all of you.
Your overwhelming support and kindness shown to us in over the past few weeks for the loss of our beloved officer, Constable Rick O’Brien, has been a source of strength and comfort for all of us.
Losing Rick has been a deeply painful experience for our detachment and the community. We will miss laughing with him, seeing his smile, sharing his jokes and his great taste in old school music. During these trying times, the cards, flowers, messages of sympathy and tokens of remembrance have touched our hearts and serve as a reminder of the strong bond we have with all of you. Your willingness to stand with us during this period of mourning is a reaffirmation of our shared commitment to a safer community.

Your unwavering support has not only helped us process our grief but has also underscored the importance of the relationship between the RCMP and our community. It is in these moments of adversity that we truly understand the value of unity and empathy from our public. I also want to thank the law enforcement community for their unending support and for caring for our community as we came to terms with our loss.
We are determined to honour the memory of Constable Rick O’Brien by continuing our duty to protect and serve the communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows with integrity and dedication. Thank you for standing with us, for your understanding, and for your belief in our principles of justice, empathy, and community.
