Maple Ridge, B.C.- Ridge Meadows RCMP Specialized Response Team (SRT) have arrested one person wanted on four warrants with twenty-two charges in total. Police also seized an imitation assault rifle and extendable baton.

On April 12, 2024, SRT’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) were conducting proactive patrols when officers observed a suspicious vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop to verify the driver’s license and identity.

Upon arrival at the vehicle, officers observed what was believed to be a firearm. The driver was safely removed from the vehicle, and the firearm was seized. At time of seizure, police determined the firearm to be an imitation.

Police are always thinking critically, and traffic stops are no exception to this. This traffic stop is an example of these officers’ ability to make quick decisions that could impact public safety. At first glance, the firearm was believed to be real, however it was determined to be an imitation. The vehicle also contained property, that is believed to be stolen, police are continuing this avenue of investigation.

The lone occupant was identified as a prohibited driver, wanted on four outstanding warrants with twenty-two charges in total which were issued out of Langley and Abbotsford in September 2023. The male told police that he had been evading arrest since the warrants were issued. The vehicle was also impounded.

This is a great example of the proactive work that the Ridge Meadows RCMP CRU continue to do in our community.

Additional charges are anticipated.

This is currently an active and ongoing investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
