File # 2023-4043
On March 2 at 12:57 a.m., the West Shore RCMP responded to a complaint of loud music coming from the parking lot of Albert Head Lagoon in Metchosin.
Officers arrived on the scene and immediately recognized one of the vehicles, a White Ford F250, as one they had been searching for since the previous day.
The F250 was identified as being involved in a theft that took place in Sooke on March 1. The theft involved stolen credit cards which were used to make several fraudulent purchases around the West Shore area.
Officers determined the F250 was also stolen out of North Saanich on February 14. The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 35-year-old Victoria man, was arrested for possession of stolen property. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered the stolen identification, credit cards, bear spray, and a crossbow.
The suspect was arrested for theft, possession of stolen property, and fail to comply with probation order as he was bound by court ordered conditions to not possess crossbows. The vehicle, weapons and stolen property were seized by police.
The investigation is still ongoing, with the possibility of further charges being forwarded against the suspect. The suspect was released with a promise to appear in court for these matters.
This is a prime example of exactly the kind of unpredictable situations that police officers attend every day. What began as a simple noise complaint quickly unfolded into a complex multi-jurisdictional investigation
