File # 2023-4065

On March 2 at 11:31 am northbound traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway near Aspen Road, Malahat was reduced to one lane for approximately 2 hours when the West Shore RCMP responded to an industrial drill bit which had fallen from the back of a moving truck after the straps securing it broke loose.

The bit was estimated to be 18 feet long and weighed between 10,000 to 15,000 lbs. Traffic was reduced to one lane until the bit could be safely removed.

Fortunately, no one was injured, and no vehicles were damaged.

The transport truck driver remained on scene was ticketed for Insecure Load under the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations.
