Members of the Whitehorse General Investigative Section, Crime Reduction Coordinator and Whitehorse Detachment initiated an investigation after receiving numerous complaints and information regarding a male individual who is known to frequent the downtown core and suspected of trafficking in illegal drugs. RCMP conducted surveillance on the individual at both his residence and in the downtown area. As a result of information gathered, RCMP members obtained a search warrant for the male’s residence which was executed on Wednesday June 13th, 2012.


RCMP members arrested 31 year old David John Malcolm who is well known to police. He is currently in custody undergoing a bail hearing. Malcolm is facing charges of trafficking and possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. He is also charged with, failing to comply with an Undertaking under Section 145(3) and Breaching a Prohibition Order under Section 161(4) of the Criminal Code.


Whitehorse RCMP is keenly aware of the complaints from local merchants and citizens regarding street level drug trafficking and other street crimes in the downtown core. This arrest is the start of more vigorous enforcement of these crimes by Police in the upcoming months. (Inspector Will Tewnion)
